loves her new short hair!

Okay, I can't resist - I have to share pictures of my new hair cut! New, as in just got it cut this morning!

I went to Raymond Michael's Salon in Medford, WI and had it cut by my favorite stylist, Sarah. I've been eyeing up short styles for weeks now, and couldn't wait to get it chopped! I think it has something to do with getting older, busier, having a son to take care of, that I just needed one less thing to worry about. I'm hoping this is it!

If you take a look at my picture on my "Who is Tanya Rae?" page, you'll understand why blow drying used to take me 20 minutes! I'll admit, it wasn't as long as it was in that picture this morning. It was about shoulder length. But it was down to my mid-back at the beginning of summer.

Having short hair is very freeing! My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner.

found the perfect teacher Halloween costume!

In my previous post, I talked about how I was Boo'ed by a fellow blogger. I mentioned a few of my favorite October things, and one of them was my Costumes board on Pinterest.

Looking through the costume ideas again, I noticed one that I had completely forgotten about. The Book Fairy! It's the PERFECT teacher Halloween costume!!!

This is the Book Fairy Costume I pinned from Lilliedale.
She has a complete tutorial on how to make the costume on her blog!
Isn't that adorable?!? Unfortunately, I might not even be in a classroom this year for Halloween. I say might not, because the long term substitute position that I am doing could start any day! The Title I teacher I am taking over for is due to have her baby November 1st. Maybe I should start working on this costume, just in case. ;)

I know that some schools don't allow students and staff to dress up for the holiday, but this is one of those costumes that could work for other events. I mean, what better way to get your students excited about books! I can just imagine how engaged students would be if the "Book Fairy" showed up every now and then to read aloud to the class, or teach a lesson.

I wonder what other teacher costumes are floating around out there. Let the hunt begin!

has been BOO-ed!

That's right, I've been boo-ed! Thanks to Kristen over at Drowning in Paperclips, I get to share a few of my favorite October treats! If you haven't been over to her place, I recommend stopping by. She may be drowning in paperclips, but needs NO rescue..her blog is amazing!

Here is how it works. If you've been booed, copy and paste the above pic and these "rules" into your post.

1. Give a shout out to the blogger who booed you and link back to their site!

2. Share 3-5 October activities, books, products (yours or someone else), or freebie(s) that you love!

3. Share the Boo love with 5 bloggers- make sure you check this link to make sure you don't boo someone again:
http://toristeachertips.blogspot.com/2012/10/ive-been-booed-fun-october-linky.html

And don't forget to tell them that they have been BOOED!

4. Link up {here} so that others can find you and read about your October ideas! And while you are there... check out the other great blogs!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Here are three of my favorite October books to read to my son and my students:

2. I had so much fun creating this Halloween Character Bunting! I have even more fun watching my son, Jack, light up every morning when he sees the bunting hanging over our living room entry way. His favorite is the pumpkin. He points to it and giggles every time!

3. I am so excited to try out my Colorful Turkeys: Color & Count Book with students once I begin my long term substitute position at the end of this month. You may think turkeys are more related to November, but if you live in Wisconsin, you've seen them all over the place this month! I can't drive anywhere without having to break for turkeys!

4. I plan to give out tons of these Halloween SPOOKTACULAR Stickers in a couple of weeks!

5. Finally, my list would not be complete without mentioning Pinterest! I have been adding to my Costume board non-stop this month. This little Peter Pan costume from make it and love it is one of my FAVORITES! Check out some of my other costume pins here.

on giveaways, cold weather, and turkeys.

I finally found my way back to my computer after an eventful couple of weeks! I can't complain though...they have been filled with weddings, birthday parties, subbing, my annual sister weekend, and much needed family time.

I can't forget - I also hosted, ran, and finished my first giveaway! Congratulations to Brianne, the winner of the 24 spectacular Fall and Halloween TpT items! I am still filled with so much gratitude over the out pour of donations, positive comments, and support I received from fellow bloggers and TpT sellers. I can't thank everyone enough for donating items, helping to promote, or entering the giveaway. I look forward to holding more in the future.

For now, my focus has been primarily on subbing during the day and spending time with my son and husband in the evening, while hunting through our closets to dig out warm clothes for the cold weather. I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in Wisconsin, Fall seems to be disappearing fast! Most of the leaves have fallen, and it actually snowed on my drive this morning!

In my attempt to hold on to my favorite season for as long as I possibly can, I recently created another Fall item for my TpT store. Colorful Turkeys: A Color & Count Book will be a perfect addition to your Fall or Thanksgiving themed activities this year! The book is great for saving on ink and paper, as it is completely done in black & White with black-lined images. Also, the book is 16 pages long, but only uses 4 sheets of paper! I hope you can swing by and check it out!

likes a good giveaway.

A giveaway here, and a giveaway there. Here a giveaway, there a giveaway, everywhere a... okay. You get it. What I don't get, however, is how there can be so many amazingly generous TpT bloggers out there!! Have you seen all of the giveaways going on right now?
I absolutely have to mention one in particular that is being held by my friend over at Adventures in Room 5. She is having a "Super Science Giveaway"! For anyone looking for some incredible, meaningful science units/lessons/activities, head on over and enter.

I've donated one of my featured items from my store; The Six Major Land Biomes: A Science Unit and Research Project. This was always one of my favorite units to do with my 5th graders. I even had a former student (now in 8th grade) approach me in the hall last year and ask, "Do you still do that travel agency unit on biomes with your students? I LOVED that unit!!!" I will admit, it made my heart melt a little just thinking about that.

Of course, I can't go without reminding you to enter my "Fall is Here Giveaway" ending this Friday! GOOD LUCK everyone!!!
